Hi...permit me to introduce myself!
While it's usually good not to know who's behind a character from a role-play sense, I believe in this case, and for this game especially, it's best to be honest and straight forward. Having played this game before, with the help of of my beloved friend Jason "Bryan Hit" Tyndal (R.I.P. 3/13/07), I know that people can assume the genders behind the character are true. I'm putting this page on the site to let it be known and dissolve any assumptions before they start. My name is Jordan, and I first played Modus in 1995 when introduced to it by Jason. I reside in Vancouver, WA, and enjoy a lot more than just RPG gaming, of course. Just to clear up any question, I am a straight woman, and I do have other characters I play which are female. I just find it to be more fun to play the male characters and I have found many great friends in doing so. I realize some may have trouble role-playing against a male character guided by a female player, but I hope it is a factor that will be dismissed for the sake of creativity, fun, and friendship.
For another FYI...before I let Jace enter into any kind of RP romance scenarios, I uaually do spill the beans about who I am before anything gets too awkward for either side. Honesty is the best policy, and I would rather have fun in an RP context than hide it and possibly upset or hurt someone later. Incidentally, Jace does have an in-game romance happening with Amanda Mitchell, and the player behind her is also a straight woman that knows who I am. There are actually a few players who know and are pretty cool with it. I have yet to come up against anyone who isn't cool with me being who I am outside of the character.
I had decided not to play the game for a long time due to an unfortunate occurrence while Jason was a game host in the game (just remember, folks, if you are a game host, master, etc...NEVER share your hosting account!), and after Jason's passing I had been asked by his family to help put his character to rest as well. After informing his RPG friends, I realized what a well loved character Bryan Hit really was, and how well loved Jason, by way of this character, really was as well. I felt I owed it to him to try the game again, but remembered the times he had let me play Bryan Hit just to hunt. I liked playing the character, and it occurred to me that one of the best ways for me to honor my friend's memory was to play the game he loved so much. So in the Summer of 2007 I came to Modus and created Jace Elias, named after my wonderful friend, Jason Eli Tyndal.
Jason was an intensely private man, and for those who knew him, they understood this and respected it. He was one of the most creative, compassionate, funny, and intense people I had ever known. He will live on in my heart and in my character of Jace Elias. For those who knew him well in Modus and TheNight.com, Bryan Hit will never be forgotten. It's my hope that any legacy he began in either game will live on in the hearts and minds of his fellow RPG gaming friends. He always felt he was truly home in the games, and I hope his memory will never fade in any of the worlds he "resided" in.
